The Story Behind the Caskets
Outside The Box Caskets was created by New Zealand industrial designer Becs Bartells, who asked a simple question: why do caskets all look the same?
What followed was a complete rethink of how a casket could look, feel and function. The result is a more personal and sustainable alternative.
Our signature curved lid and structural system are registered designs developed in New Zealand, engineered for strength and suitable for both burial and cremation.

We offer a custom design service where each casket lid is created using your photos, artwork, colours or themes. Every lid is a one-off design made especially for your loved one.
Custom designs are printed on a white base for a brighter, more vibrant photographic finish. This gives them a different look to our kraft-based printed casket range.

Every Outside The Box casket is designed for both burial and cremation, certified to Green Burial standards, so families can choose the farewell that suits them. Our urns keep that same personality, in the same designs, for those who choose cremation.

Outside The Box Caskets are award winning, independently certified, and meet both Green Burial and cremation requirements.
